SAT Preparation Overview
This is the most vital element of any high school student’s life. SAT’s will affect almost any career path you wish to follow so it is very important to be fully prepared but the most important of all, is not to panic.
If you do panic then no matter how much cramming and organizing you put into your studies, it will feel like you are never ready, let alone pass.
There are many websites that offer practice SAT tests for free and I recommend you give this a go because it may surprise you how much information has been learned, it is normally just a problem of confidence.
Preparing effective study plans
There are many ways to prepare on your sat’s. It is always best to plan well in advance and you will be more relaxed because panicking will make the situation worse and achieving the best grades possible will open up offers from top U.S. colleges
Decide how much time to allocate on each individual subject but split it evenly to ensure as much ground is covered as possible so there is no place you may not feel fully prepared. Even the most organized of people will never be 100% ready for any exams looming.
Look after your mind and body
SAT’s are important but so is your health. There are a number of points you need to remember because while all these tests are vital why spend all that time studying if your mind will forget it all 5 minutes later?
· Get plenty of fresh air, it is highly recommended that for every hour of studying you spend 5 or 10 minutes outdoors just to clear your head
· Don’t skip meals. Many skip all important meals, especially breakfast. This will not help in any way and will have the opposite effect of what anyone to achieve. Having a nutritious breakfast will make you feel ready for anything
· Take a break. Another vital factor, if you study for hours on end then you may feel that nothing has been learned. Walk away for a few minutes and it may surprise you just how much information has been absorbed
· Take vitamins. Studying may feel like it is taking up a lot of energy and it is important to make sure that you keep up your required daily intake of vitamins. If not, it can cause tiredness and the feeling of being unable to study at all
Top Tip: If you feel that going out for a walk whilst studying will distract you then the best way to overcome this problem, is to study outdoors. It is solving two problems just by setting everything up in the open.
There are many sites located throughout the internet world that can assist you with your studying. Look for practice tests which will create a feeling of real exam conditions but without the pressure. I stress to try as many of these as possible because a high score on practice tests alone will boost low self confidence.
It has been proved that in most cases of group study, it does prove to be successful but why is this?
If you have a mixed group of several individuals all trying to prepare for SAT’s then it is best helping to blend in all that knowledge and learn together. There are going to be some students that excel more in one certain subject than another pupil and vice versa. All the knowledge can be covered in one group and it proves to be more effective than solo studying.
Top Tip: Always consider merging into a study group because everyone has a certain subject they excel in and one they may struggle with. If you cannot find such a group then check out your local library they may be able to provide details of similar schemes. Just remember you are not alone, there are many others like you throughout the country going through exactly the same thing.
Be strict but not too strict
It is important to set yourself clear study guidelines because if you start putting off study and doing unnecessary tasks, this could affect any chance of getting the college of your choice.
Whilst you need to take study seriously and stick to guidelines set either by yourself or study group, remember to rest. It will not prove ideal to burn yourself to a frazzle by staying up night and day, this will accomplish nothing.
A few hours of hard studying will suffice and at the same time help in achieving excellent passing grades and reaching that all important graduation day.
Don’t be afraid to ask for help
This may seem obvious but many students are too afraid to admit that they are struggling on a certain element of exam preparation.
It is the job of teachers to offer advice and support throughout this period because your success is also their success and they want the best for students.
Top Tip: If you find parts of your studying difficult to grasp then it is best to discuss your problems with tutors, they cannot offer all the answers but will be able to guide you in the right direction for exam success.
The big day has arrived. You feel ready yet nervous, try not to be or this can be a major onset of panic. The SAT exam will last about three hours and when you are settling in, remember to read all questions properly. Be sure you fully understand the answers required and you will be fine. Don’t finish after one hour, check and re-check your answers until completely satisfied that you have done your best in gaining a maximum number of points per question.
Rushing this vital exam could well ruin your life’s decisions.
Before you start, take a deep breath and exhale. All you can do is hope the studying will pay off for you. Remember if you don’t panic then you are certain to succeed, don’t let the test control you.
SATS will require a lot of time and dedication to studying for them but overall for a few months of hard work, it can mean that you get the college you were gunning for and as they say, the rest is history.
A few hours per day can make the difference between a bad score or really outstanding score. Always be on the look out for groups that can assist you with subjects that may be harder than others and by returning the favour.
These groups will prove invaluable because all students worldwide will have subjects they excel at better than others and have an easier grasp of the material. If this is not ideal then refer to after school groups which can offer the same assistance.
Never be afraid to ask for help if you are unsure of something, teachers want all students to reach their peak efficiency and achieve remarkable results that would make any parent proud. The only point you need to remember now is, don’t panic and I wish you all the best of luck.
